Concept
Suggested Changes for Colonoscopy Procedures
- One of the major changes which this paper seeks to make is to encourage the use of non-sedative or low sedation procedures with benzodiazepines and opiates
- This change in sedation should also be coupled with an increase in water-aided examination which can be performed with minimal sedation
- Also using more minimally sedative procedures would allow for patients to have faster turn around times and would minimize possibility of infection during or after procedure
- Quality of colonoscopy care also cannot fall during the COVID-19 pandemic as there are an abundance of high risk patients which require this procedure
- Type of colonoscopy procedure should also be determined on a patient-by-patient basis as to what will seek to minimize infection risk, however water-aided technique is encouraged
