Suicidality in BPD
Research shows that approximately 75% of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) will make at least one suicide attempt in their lifetime, with many making multiple attempts. BPD is associated with intensely negative emotional experiences that are often so painful that individuals report wanting to find a way to escape. Strategies used to try to reduce this emotional pain include deliberate self-harm, substance use, and suicide.
