2-year group therapy treatment for symptoms of PTSD and the sense of coherence (SOC)

Total of 46 sessions. Phase 1- talk about child abuse. Phase 2- to work through effects on the present life. 

Design of Group Therapy 

1. SCL-90 measuring psychological symptoms. 2. SOC (sense of coherence) measuring stress resistance. 3. Life events- what kinds of life events in a certain time period

Group interventions have shown effectiveness in treatment for survivors of childhood abuse. Group intervention are significantly more effective than individual treatment alone for depression and anxiety in survivors of childhood abuse.


Group Therapy for Survivors of Childhood Abuse



This study, "The efficacy of group treatment for survivors of childhood abuse," examined change in relation to a feminist model for group therapy. The focus of the group was for each individual to “tell their story” in a safe and supportive environment. The group is led by two co-therapists, with six-eight individuals. Each group meets for two and half hours weekly for 10 to 12 weeks. Individual therapy was allowed concurrently as needed.
