Categorization of disorders by syndromes is a topographical strategy, as formal differences are the primary focus, while its purpose is functional. The main goal being; emphasizing signs and symptoms will lead to a creation of effective categorization of mental disorders by exemplifying disease entities, their processes of origin, development, maintenance and change, if all of which could be easily identified, could then lead to treatments more efficiently targeting underlying disease processes.
