The benefits fo a taxonomy really depend on how that taxonomy is used. If it is displayed in the form of an index then it may not help. If it uses visually displayed links then it could be useful. A taxonomy of visually displayed concepts could help demonstrate the relationships of concepts within and  between fields. This would allow someone to see how a concept or knowlwedge entity is used across fields.
