In Section 18 of Jami's Haft Awrang, the poet explores the profound Sufi practice of 'Hidden Remembrance' (Dhikr-e Khafi). Jami emphasizes that true spiritual remembrance should be completely internal, to the extent that the seeker becomes 'mute in tongue' and 'silent on the lips.' He identifies two primary dangers in outward or self-conscious remembrance: the ego (nafs), which might become corrupted by spiritual conceit (ujb) if it recognizes the practice, and the recording angels, whose awareness might inadvertently expose the sacred secret. By keeping the remembrance hidden even from oneself and the angels, the practitioner ensures its absolute purity and spiritual endurance.
