Short Answer

The Condition for Maximizing Economic Rent

A landowner forces a farmer to work the land. The landowner's goal is to maximize their own share of the crop (their economic rent), which is the total amount produced minus the minimum amount the farmer needs to survive. Explain, in economic terms, why the landowner's rent is not necessarily maximized at the point of highest total production.
