This is the first level of analysis for socio-cognitive research. This level is where the individual himself/herself is involved in constructing their knowledge and creating meaning from their experiences. They individual seeks meaning as well as collecting and using knowledge.

The Individual Level

This level involves relationships and interactions with others. Interpersonal relations and dynamic held guide development, knowledge, and meaning. This level can examine inter-subjectivity and mutual expectations. 

Interpersonal Interaction Level

This level refers to the particular guidelines that social interactions follow and any sort of rules/expectations intergroup relationships must abide by. This can guide what behaviors are seen as acceptable in different contexts. 

Roles and Statuses Level

This level refers to particular ideologies, traditions, and social representations that guide to definitions of situations. These can be established by policies or groups, but are interpreted by the individual.
