The left atrium receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle through the mitral valve. After the blood is in the left ventricle, it is pumped through the aortic valve out to the rest of the body.

Pneumonia is a condition in which the lungs fill with mucus.
