In Western countries, middle-aged adults are often cited as a group with high suicide rates, making them a particularly vulnerable yet often overlooked demographic. In the United States specifically, while the absolute highest rates are among the elderly, suicide rates for those aged 25-64 have been rising consistently since 2001, prompting concern about this group's vulnerability due to factors like economic worry and access to prescription medication.

The transition of identity which occurs during the ages of 45 and 65. It is a psychological aspect more to do with adjustment and self-confidence than mental illness.
