In Section 20 of Jami's Haft Awrang, the poet explores the orthographic and structural symbolism of the Islamic declaration of faith, La ilaha illallah. He points out that despite consisting of multiple words, the entire phrase is composed of only three distinct Arabic letters: alif, lam, and ha. These three letters are also the exact components of the word Ilah (God). Jami interprets this linguistic feature as a profound metaphor for Tawhid (Divine Unity). He explains that just as the apparent multiplicity of words in this phrase is formed from a single, simple set of letters representing God, the immense diversity and multiplicity found in the created universe—across all its physical and immaterial ranks—are ultimately manifestations of the single, indivisible Divine Essence.
