In Poem 33 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet explores the philosophical paradox of the human search for God. The poem dismisses the capacity of the human intellect and soul to tread the divine path or adequately describe divine glory. Attar concludes by exposing the very act of seeking as a delusion: because the Divine encompasses all of existence ('You are the whole'), the duality required for seeking (a seeker distinct from the sought) does not exist, rendering the search itself an illusion.
