Essay

The Principle of Technological Dominance

A fellow student argues, "A firm might still choose a technologically dominated production method if one of the inputs for that method becomes extremely cheap, or even free." Critically evaluate this statement. In your answer, first define what makes one technology 'dominated' by another. Then, explain with a clear, hypothetical numerical example why a profit-maximizing firm would never select a dominated technology, regardless of input prices.
