In Section 16 of Haft Awrang, Jami metaphorically describes the Islamic declaration of faith, La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah), as a polish (صیقل) that cleanses the human heart. He compares the heart to a divine mirror (آیینه خدای نما) that has become darkened by worldly attachments and illusions. The continuous recitation of this pure word acts as a purifying force that removes everything ephemeral (فانی), allowing only the eternal (باقی) to be reflected. Furthermore, Jami vividly characterizes La ('No', the negation of false deities) as a cosmic crocodile (ن��نگ) that swallows all of existence—from the highest heaven to the earth—annihilating the ego and worldly multiplicity to leave room only for the Divine.
