The Rationale for Economic Efficiency

An individual has a set number of hours per day to divide between work (which generates income for consumption) and free time. Consider a scenario where this individual chooses a combination of free time and consumption that is possible for them to achieve, but where they do not spend all the income they have earned from the hours they worked. From an economic perspective, explain in detail why this choice is considered 'suboptimal' for a person who values having more of both consumption and free time.
