The Strategy of Political Campaigns

Consider a political election with two main candidates. Each candidate must decide whether to run a campaign based on positive messaging about their own platform or to run negative 'attack' ads against their opponent. Analyze this scenario as a prisoners' dilemma. In your response, identify the 'players,' their 'strategies,' and describe the potential outcomes (payoffs) that lead to the dilemma. Explain why, from a strategic standpoint, both candidates might choose a path that results in a worse outcome for both of them.
