The Struggles with Treatment

Childhood can be difficult for those with cerebral palsy. Managing symptoms often involves physical therapies and treatments. Many kids had to strap uncomfortable weights to their forearms or use magnets to help control tremors. Unfortunately, these treatments often caused more shame than relief. The struggle with painful and visible aids highlights a young person's desire to feel normal. Society seems more focused on treatments than on understanding and accepting them. Following these treatments often takes an emotional toll, especially when they promise little improvement.
