2. Wikipedia’s impact on scholarly publications is more noticeable in citations to it instead of publications about Wikipedia. 

3. Engineering (24%) and medicine (14%) are the academic fields more frequently citing Wikipedia in publications

4. The table indicates an upward trend in the number of publications citing Wikipedia. 

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

- Collected data in 2011 from the WoS and Scopus databases on publications from 2002 to 2010. 
- Searched WoS and Scopus separately for “Wikipedia” in titles and abstracts to locate the number of publications that had Wikipedia as their main topic (WoS had 291 and Scopus 1,455 publications that had topics related to Wikipedia). 
- Another search for “cited work = Wikipedia” was done in WoS to locate publication citations that referenced Wikipedia articles. A similar approach was taken to search for “refsrctitle = wikipedia” in Scopus (WoS had 340 and Scopus 3,339 publications that cited Wikipedia in the reference).
