This theory argues that the area of the brain tasked with comprehending and producing language independently produces and processes language that passes through the area of the brain tasked with short-term memory processing.

Independent but Cooperative

This theory posits that both the linguistic systems of the brain as well as the memory systems of the brain are together responsible for processing language and work in tandem.

Interactive Theory of Memory and Language

This theory presents the idea that both the memory systems and the linguistics systems in the brain resemble each other during language processing and share the same activation patterns when producing language.

Unified Theory of Language and Memory

Whether discussing specifically aphasia or just the interactions between memory and language in general, there are three primary theoretical approaches- independent but cooperative, interactive, and unified.

Some studies involving aphasia and memory have involved implicit learning. Implicit learning is a process or series of processes in which the relationship or association between two items or concepts is formed by incidental learning processes, in which all learning is done through non-conscious or explicit learning but by practice in a natural situation or environment.
