Tolerance in Substance Use Disorders

Tolerance is a physiological condition linked to physical dependence in which a person requires increasingly larger doses of a substance to achieve the same effects previously attained with smaller doses. It can lead to escalating substance use, potentially reaching dangerous levels that may result in overdose and death.
