Tracking the Twitter attention around the research efforts on the COVID-19 pandemic discussion - tweeting patterns

  • 68.1% of publications in the dataset were mentioned on Twitter at least once
  • Twitter engagement and discussion regarding COVID-19-related research is much more active than usual
  • Similar to the general temporal accumulation patterns of scholarly Twitter mentions, COVID-19-related publications also saw increased engagement on Twitter a few days after its publication
  • Information posted by academically-related users had more engagement and response by other Twitter users
