Though preliminary and uncontrolled with a small number of cases, administration of convalescent plasma containing neutralizing antibody was followed by improvement in the patients' clinical status. Though the authors note that these observations  requre evaluation in clinical trials.

Five critically ill patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and AARDS were treated with CP transfusion, conducted at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital in China. Patients received transfusion of CP that had been obtained from five patients who had recovered from COVID-19. In this uncontrolled case study, the administration of convalescent plasma containing neutralizing antibody was followed by improvement in their clinical status.

Treatment of 5 Critically Ill Patients With COVID-19 With Convalescent Plasma

Five patients with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis were chosen with the additional criteria of having severe pneumonia with rapid progression, specific oxygen levels and at the time of study were on ventilation or had been supported with ventilation. Blood types were determined for compatibility, and each patient received two consecutive transfusions of 200 to 250 ml of ABO-compatible convalescent plasma, for a total of 400 ml. Donors of the convalescent plasma had been previously diagnosed and subsequently tested negative. They had been asymptomatic for at least 10 days prior to giving plasma, and had a neutralizing antibody titer greater than 40. 
Nasopharyngeal specimens were taken from patients and used in RT-PCR assays, providing a Ct value. If Ct results were between 37 and 40, the specimen was considered positive. The Ct values of the 5 patients were obtained on day -1, 1, 3, 7 and 12 after the transfusion. Serum Neutralization

The Ct value at the time of admission ranged from 18.9 to 38.0, and on the day of transfusion from 22.0 to 35.9. After one day after transfusion, the Ct values increased. The Ct value of patient 5 became negative on post-transfusion day 1, patient 3 and patient 4 became negative on day 3, and patient 1 and patient 2 became negative on day 12 after the transfusion. SOFA score was also used and decreased from a range of 2 to 10 prior to plasma transfusion to a range from 1 to 4, 12 days following the transfusion. Oxygen levels also improved, and body temperature stabilized. All signs of pneumonia showed gradual resolution. Three patients who had been on mechanical ventilation were weaned from the ventilation successfully and released after over 50 days of hospital stay each. As of March 25, 2020, the two other patients remained hospitalized.
