- The historical composition and demographics of professional philosophy itself, 
- The narrowing concentration of the prevailing subject matter and techniques of philosophy, 
- The increasingly close association between philosophy and the sciences, and 
- The otherwise limited theoretical, discursive, and political focus of much philosophy

Why Critical Analysis of Disability Remains Marginalized in Philosophy

As long as feminist philosophers accept the same foundational picture of disability (as a biological “fact” rather than a socially produced category), they’re still operating within the same power/knowledge system that marginalizes disabled people.

Feminist philosophers might disagree with mainstream philosophers about what should be done regarding disability (i.e., they might draw different ethical or political conclusions). For example, mainstream philosophers might say, “Disability is a biological deficit; therefore, we should focus on curing or eliminating it.” A feminist philosopher, while accepting that disability is biological, might instead say, “Even if it is a biological deficit, disabled people still deserve care, respect, and social support.”
