If the turbulent gas cloud hypothesis is true for COVID-19 transmission, it may influence current recommendations to reduce transmission. The CDC and WHO recommendations for separations of 3-6 feet are based on estimates that do not incorporate gas clouds that carry droplets of all sizes further distances through forward momentum. The authors highlight the need for more research on biophysics of COVID-19 transmission and discuss the importance of mask usage in addition to physical separation. Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in this form has not been demonstrated according to WHO and much more research is necessary to support the hypothesis.
