Modular learning content where there is no assigned structure to the modules. Learners have flexibility to learn the modules they wish to learn but there is no added structure to aid in following or linking related modules.

Courses are prerequisite and modular in their nature. Learners have the flexibility of modular learning content while also having an assigned structure to the modules. Learners must progress in a certain order such that the prerequisite knowledge is covered prior to understanding the follow-up modules.

Modules can be incorporated into traditional courses, used to create entire courses in a prescribed sequence, or offered as a selection of modules from a large set of options. They anticipate that, in the near future, entire curricula or disciplinary programs may be structured around modules, with each student's program customized to their unique needs and interests.
