UK Real and Nominal GDP Index (1980–2022)

Data from the UK between 1980 and 2022, presented as an index with the year 2000 as the baseline (100), illustrates the divergence between nominal and real GDP. The plot of this data shows that the nominal GDP series grows significantly faster than the real GDP series. This highlights the critical importance of adjusting for price level changes (inflation) to accurately measure real economic growth, even during periods of relatively low inflation.
