Unintended Consequences of Mandatory Reporting Laws

Despite the rarity of prosecutions under mandatory reporting laws, these policies can create a climate of fear that discourages pregnant individuals from seeking medical care for their pregnancy or for substance abuse issues. This reluctance stems from the fear of legal intervention and leads them to conceal their conditions from healthcare providers, potentially harming both parent and child.
