The reliance on karma has created an acceptance of disability, but with little effort towards providing equitable rights. The idea of earning good karma in this life, leading to a rebirth without disability, can induce hope in people.

Views on Disability Based on Beliefs

An "Imperfect" daughter, when offered to a prospective son-in-law, must be compensated for with a higher dowry. If compensation is difficult, then compromises like marrying a widower must be made. Disability in a son is more acceptable as he does not have to be given away in marriage. Within the public sphere, disabled men have greater access to assistive technology than women.
