*Haemophilus influenzae* has at least 16 different virulence factors including Hap, the adhesion and penetration factor that allows for adhesion and invasion of cells. It also has a capsule that can prevent it from being engulfed by phagocytes and the hemoglobin-binding protein that obtains iron from hemoglobin for their own growth.

*Haemophilus influenzae* can cause *Haemophilus* influenzae Type b meningitis. *H. influenzae* is found in throat microbiota. Children around two months are more susceptible to the meningitis this forms.
