Profile of Mood States (POMS) is an inventory that is used to measure total mood disturbance (TMD) as well as six individual mood states. The inventory produces a TMD score as well as a score for each mood state. The mood states are:

- Tension-anxiety
- Depression-dejection
- Anger-hostility
- Vigor-activity
- Fatigue-inertia
- Confusion-bewilderment
