University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

In a hypothetical example of following social norms, the most popular singer at Melody's middle school is Selena Gomez. For her birthday, Melody asks for tickets to an upcoming Selena Gomez concert. On the way to the concert, Melody's mom plays the radio where a Taylor Swift song is playing. Melody discovers that she enjoys Taylor Swift more than Selena Gomez, but continues to say that Selena Gomez is her favorite singer when she is at school in order to conform to the socially determined expectations of her peers.
