The Flynn effect describes the observed phenomenon where each new generation consistently scores higher on IQ tests than the generation before it. This trend was identified as a result of the periodic recalibration of intelligence tests. However, the researcher for whom the effect is named, James Flynn, has cautioned that these rising scores do not necessarily signify that younger generations are fundamentally more intelligent.
