Why experts should review only difficult labels

Question: Describe a labeling workflow in which less expensive reviewers handle routine examples and experts handle only the hardest cases. Why is this more cost-effective than sending every example to experts?

Sample answer: A practical labeling workflow uses a lower-cost reviewer for most clear-cut examples and sends only uncertain or unusual cases to senior experts. This saves money because expert time is limited and expensive. It also avoids using highly trained staff on examples that can already be labeled reliably by a less costly reviewer.

Key points:

  • Routine examples are labeled by the lower-cost reviewer
  • Ambiguous or difficult examples are escalated to experts
  • The main benefit is reducing the amount of expensive expert time used

Rubric: The response should describe the workflow (routine cases handled first, difficult cases escalated) and explain the reason for it (saving scarce expert time and cost).
