- Both donors and recipients were advised to practice proper COVID-19 protective measures both before and after surgery including mask wearing and regular bodily disinfection
- Both parties also received regular testing prior to surgery
- Most actions taken by both parties were extremely similar to guidelines for transplantation donors and recipients prior to the COVID-19 era, but with more caution


Donor Recipient Workup

- Overall survivability rates remained fairly high, with 14 mortalities out of 297 transplants
- Most deaths came from cardiac complication and most post-surgery infections were from COVID-19
- 12 recipients and 7 donors contracted COVID-19 prior to their scheduled surgeries
- 41 transplant recipients contracted COVID-19 after their surgeries
- It was also noted that recipients that contracted COVID-19 were significantly older part of the population than those that did not 
- In COVID-19 transplant patients respiratory symptoms predominated
- To treat comorbid patients various drugs such as remdesivir, lopinavir/ritonavir, hydroxychloroquine, dexamethasone, azithromycin, tocilizumab, convalescent plasma were used with no clear evidence to favor the use of a specific drug

- This article seeks to detail some of the experience of providing kidney transplants in a few centers located in India during the COVID-19 pandemic
- This article is a retrospective study and mainly seeks to look at patient outcome from procedures done during the pandemic using mainly hospital system information and medical records
- Patient assessments were primarily made on the basis of case severity, need for patient ventilation, mortality, graft dysfunction, graft loss and rejection rates
