Concept

Results and Discussion

  • Overall survivability rates remained fairly high, with 14 mortalities out of 297 transplants
  • Most deaths came from cardiac complication and most post-surgery infections were from COVID-19
  • 12 recipients and 7 donors contracted COVID-19 prior to their scheduled surgeries
  • 41 transplant recipients contracted COVID-19 after their surgeries
  • It was also noted that recipients that contracted COVID-19 were significantly older part of the population than those that did not
  • In COVID-19 transplant patients respiratory symptoms predominated
  • To treat comorbid patients various drugs such as remdesivir, lopinavir/ritonavir, hydroxychloroquine, dexamethasone, azithromycin, tocilizumab, convalescent plasma were used with no clear evidence to favor the use of a specific drug
