Ableist Framework and Consequences

This conflict is reinforced by ableist assumptions that value productivity, attention, and self-control as moral virtues rather than diverse human traits. When treatment is framed as an unfair advantage instead of a necessary accommodation, students may internalize these beliefs, leading to shame, self-stigma, and reduced treatment adherence. Ultimately, cultural distrust of ADHD treatment perpetuates a system where neurodivergence is pathologized while conformity to narrow performance norms is rewarded.
