An extracted Sufi concept from Hujwiri's account of Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Jawzajani. Al-Jawzajani teaches that all of humankind races across the fields of heedlessness (maydan al-ghaflat) and leans upon conjecture (zann), while imagining that their deeds rest on reality (haqiqat) and their speech issues from unveiling (mukashafa). Hujwiri glosses this as the delusion of natural disposition (pindar-i tab') and the arrogance of the ego (ru'unat-i nafs): a person may be ignorant yet cling firmly to their own ignorance, a peril he judges most acute among the ignorant among the Sufis. The saying frames honest self-knowledge and the critique of false certainty as prerequisites for any authentic spiritual state.
