Abu Bakr's Truthfulness and Companionship in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 3, Poem 1)

In the first poem of Chapter 3 of the Mokhtar Nameh, Farid al-Din Attar praises Abu Bakr by highlighting his core virtues in Islamic tradition. The poem emphasizes his 'truthfulness' (sidq), an allusion to his honorific title al-Siddiq. Furthermore, it highlights his intimate closeness to Prophet Muhammad by explicitly referring to him as 'the second of the two' (thani athnayn). This directly evokes Quran 9:40, referring to the time when the Prophet and Abu Bakr took refuge in the cave of Thawr during the Hijrah (migration) to Medina, illustrating his unique rank and companionship.
