- Recruited 738 8th graders from 10 public schools (34 classrooms, 21 teachers) in California – 117 students with disabilities, 620 without disabilities, 1 not sure
- Tested students during the Winter/Spring semester of 2007
- Random assignment to Version A or B in each classroom

- Used a reading comprehension test with 3 informational passages from released state tests 
- Passage 1 ~700 words, passages 2 and 3 ~550 words each 
- 8 multiple choice questions with 4 choices for each passage
- Version A is control, passage as is
- Version B consisted of segmented text, with questions directly following each segment and inference questions attached at the end
