Maternal Substance Abuse as an Adverse Childhood Experience Coping Mechanism and Prenatal Neurodevelopment

Individuals who experience Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) may engage in substance abuse as a coping mechanism. When pregnant mothers engage in substance abuse, it can severely harm fetal development in utero, leading to impaired neurodevelopment and compromised brain function in the offspring.
