Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been tentatively shown to decrease symptom severity in adolescents who are on ADHD medication.  When used for ADHD specifically, this therapy consists of education about ADHD and skills training in areas such as organization and planning, distraction control, procrastination mitigation, and adaptive thinking.

This could consist of learning how to break down large tasks into smaller chunks, how to set more realistic deadlines for themselves, and reconsidering perfectionistic beliefs.

Procrastination Mitigation CBT Training for ADHD

This could consist of activities like learning to make lists of distractions while working on a task and checking in with themselves at intervals to ensure that they have not gotten off-task.
