ADHD and Anxiety Comorbidity: Improving CBT for Comorbid Anxiety Using Medication
Studies have shown that the most effective way to treat comorbid anxiety in those with ADHD is to treat the symptoms of ADHD first. This idea can be seen in CBT as it is most effective in treating comorbid anxiety when individuals use medication and/or psychosocial therapy to treat their ADHD symptoms before partaking in CBT treatment. One potential reason for this is because the medication can alleviate the symptoms of ADHD that would have interfered with components of CBT.
