Adolescence as a Social Construct

The concept of adolescence is a social construct, meaning it is not a universal stage of life across all societies and time periods. In pre-industrial societies, for example, individuals were typically considered adults upon reaching physical maturity. The modern idea of adolescence as an extended period between childhood and adulthood is a more recent development.
