Adventurousness and Text Types

Highly adventurous people are more like to engage in more stimulating texts like hyperlinks, while less adventurous people are more like to engage in more simple texts like linear texts. In a test, students were randomly assigned three types of texts to read: linear, paged hyperlinks, and expanding hyperlinks. Highly adventurous people experienced the least disorientation from expanding hyperlinks and the most from linear texts, while the less adventurous experienced the opposite. However, many people in the test were unfamiliar with the expanding hyperlink format, and most of them experienced some form of disorientation. The conclusion of the test was that text format must be altered for levels of adventurousness.
