Al-Wasiti's signature teaching on remembrance (dhikr): the one who remembers within His remembrance is more heedless than the one who forgets His remembrance.

Hujwiri unpacks the paradox: if a servant keeps the Remembered (al-madhkur, God) present, then even forgetting the act of remembrance does no harm. The real loss belongs to the one who keeps the act of remembrance present while the Remembered is absent — for then dhikr becomes a veil, a remembrance detached from the One remembered (dhikr ghayr madhkur).

The upshot: perfection of dhikr is not the servant's awareness of remembering, but the disappearance of the rememberer into absorption with the Remembered. Self-conscious remembrance is itself a subtle form of heedlessness (ghaflah).
