Alcohol use and psychological distress among sexual and gender minority students: Secondary Hypothesis Results

The secondary hypothesis states that the relationship would be stronger for SGM university students assigned female compared to assigned male at birth.

  • Results showed that the effect of increased alcohol use on psychological distress since the start of COVID-19 was non-significant for AMAB participants.
  • Conversely, the effect of increased alcohol use on psychological distress since the start of COVID-19 was significant for AFAB participants, with significant covariates including being foreign-born, being an undergraduate student, and identifying as gender queer or transgender.
