-  The 1988 Hearing Aid Compatibility Act required that all telephones (including cell phones) be compatible with hearing aids. 

-  The 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), signed by President Obama and enacted in 2010, requires text messaging, e-mail, instant messaging, and video call services to be accessible to people with disabilities.

-  In 2012 the U.S. Federal Communications Commission ruled that all TV programs with closed captions must include those captions when published online.

Alert systems use a built-in lamp flasher and light to alert you to the alarm clock, doorbell or telephone ringing. These can also be used with smoke detectors and help ease concern of not hearing your smoke alarm during sleep when hearing aids are not worn.
