Adler stated that 'The happiness of mankind lies in working together' and that the primary goal of psychology should be 'to recognize the equal rights and equality of others.'

Alfred Adler identified three fundamental social tasks that every individual must navigate: occupational tasks, which relate to one's career; societal tasks, which involve forming friendships; and love tasks, which concern finding an intimate partner for a long-term relationship.

Alfred Adler's and Sigmund Freud's theories on motivation differ significantly. While Freud centered motivation on unconscious sexual and aggressive drives, Adler emphasized social motives. Furthermore, Adler prioritized conscious motivation, asserting that individuals are explicitly aware of and pursue their fundamental social tasks. Although he acknowledged unconscious processes, he considered conscious ones more influential, which contrasts with Freud's primary focus on the unconscious mind.

Comparison of Adler's and Freud's Views on Motivation

One of Alfred Adler's significant contributions to personality psychology is the theory that a person's birth order influences their personality. He hypothesized that older siblings tend to become overachievers to compensate for having to share parental attention after a new child is born. In contrast, Adler suggested that the youngest children might become spoiled. He proposed that the middle child has the opportunity to offset the negative dynamics of the oldest and youngest siblings. It is important to note that despite its popularity, research has not provided conclusive support for Adler's hypotheses on birth order.
