Analogy of the All-or-None Phenomenon

The all-or-none phenomenon of an action potential can be compared to sending a digital message, such as an email or text. A person can compose and think about sending the message, but it is not actually transmitted until the 'send' button is pressed. This action is analogous to the membrane potential reaching the threshold of excitation. Once the button is pressed and the message is sent, the action is irreversible and cannot be stopped.
