Analyses of multivariable logistic regression on chronicity

  • Three multivariable logistic regression analyses were carried out comparing subjects with and without chronic UP, BP, and UP + BP.
  • The score for childhood family problems was the most consistent predictor of chronicity across all three diagnostic groups with ratios between 1.7 and 1.8.
  • Being more anxious than one’s peers was a risk factor for UP (OR = 4.0) and for UP + BP (OR = 2.3).
  • Family history of depression was negatively associated with chronic BP at a trend level (OR = 0.4) and with UP ? BP (OR = 0.5).
  • Lower self-esteem was associated with chronic BP, as was decreased mastery in the merged group (UP + BP).
  • Somatisation, as measured by the SCL-90-R at age 19/20, was positively associated with chronic UP (OR = 2.1).
